Delridge Alliance and DESC Form Advisory Committee

DESC has partnered with an NDNC Task Force to form an advisory committee for the Delridge supportive housing development that consists of representation by all project stakeholders.  The work of the NDNC Task Force and DESC, with the help of King County Councilmember Joe McDermott and City of Seattle Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, ensures  neighborhood concerns are addressed as the advisory committee works collaboratively to implement DESC’s Delridge Community Relations Plan.

Back in November, NDNC created a Task Force for the purpose of  recruiting and then appointing individuals to the Delridge Alliance who are working  as neighborhood stakeholder representatives on DESC’s community advisory committee.  Delridge Alliance’s mission is to “gather input and prioritize the community’s concerns regarding the DESC Supportive Housing Project; to help the community envision goals for the DESC space; and to actively work with key decision makers to represent the community’s needs throughout the DESC project timeline. ”

Working with elected officials, the NDNC Task Force and DESC have established committee processes that encourage active community engagement.  For example, meetings will be held at Youngstown so that neighbors can attend and utilize the opportunity for public input set aside at all meetings.  DESC has assumed coordination responsibilities that include securing meeting spaces and providing administrative support to the committee.

We are all encouraged by DESC’s commitment to strong neighborhood presence on the committee as evinced by their suggestion of neighbor positions in addition to those already filled by Delridge Alliance Advocates.

NDNC is encouraged by this news and look forward to helping facilitate the open and transparent dialogue necessary to improve neighborhood and developer relations.  The executive committee has appointed Vonetta Mangaoang, NDNC Co-Secretary, to chair the Delridge Alliance to ensure continued neighborhood outreach activities.
