Proposed Metro Changes

Have you had a chance to review the proposed changes to our area’s Metro service?  King County Metro announced the 2012 services changes back in early December.  With the busy December and January, I was unable to post the changes to service in North Delridge.  Until now….

So our voices seem to have been heard and increased services may be coming.  Most significant change is a couple connections east and west are being proposed.  Here is a break down for the routes through North Delridge.

Boren School Approved for K-5 STEM Program

It’s official, Boren Middle School will be opened in the fall as a K-5 STEM option school.  West Seattle Blog posted a full story a couple days ago.

It is important to note that the School Board has made it clear that is a temporary location and the final location has not been identified.  At the meeting on January 14th, Marty McLaren, West Seattle School Board member, made it clear to me that Boren will continue to be a interim school site for emergency preparedness.  I voiced frustration over having such a large parcel vacant and uncared for.  McLaren did Read more »

Greenways News

As we heard from Sally Bagshaw two weeks ago, it seems that the city has committed to funding several miles of neighborhood greenways in 2012. In the last week or so, news has circulated that we can expect 11 miles of greenways in 2012, with a promise to fund around 12 miles per year thereafter (more details can be read at the Seattle Bike Blog). Included in the news are specific mentions of two streets in North Delridge: 21st and 26th Avenues. The former has been advocated by members of Spokespeople West Seattle, while the latter has been pushed by North Delridge neighbors. Read more »

NDNC Meeting Minutes – 1.9.12

Here are the topics covered at the Monthly NDNC Meeting on Jan. 9:

Bridging the Gap – Applications due Feb. 1

In 2006, Seattle voters passed a nine-year, $365 million levy for transportation maintenance and improvements known as Bridging the Gap.  The levy funds programs to address the maintenance backlog for paving, sidewalk development and repairs, bridge repair, rehabilitation and seismic upgrades, tree pruning and planting, transit enhancements, and other much needed maintenance work.  Funding also supports projects that implement the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master plans, create a Safe Routes to School Program, improve transit connections and help neighborhoods get larger projects built through the Neighborhood Street Fund large project program. City-wide Greenways Meeting

Tonight I represented the Delridge neighborhood at the monthly city-wide meeting for Greenway advocates.  The neighborhood greenway concept has been getting a lot of press lately in Seattle, thanks to a number of grass-roots movements in neighborhoods across the city, as well as enthusiastic support at City Hall from council-member Sally Bagshaw.  You can read her take on greenways on her blog.

Tonight’s meeting, held at the Beacon Hill Library, began with updates Read more »
